Down by the Riverside: Sights and Scenes Along the St. Johns River

Down By The Riverside A

The St. Johns Cultural Council has assembled a collection of original artwork depicting the beauty and majesty of the St. Johns River. The exhibit, Down by the Riverside: Sights and Scenes Along the St. Johns River, will be on display during the St. Johns River Summit.

Florida’s most unique waterway has been a continuous source of inspiration to artists for many generations.  Timucuans, through sculptures and pottery, and the French explorer and artist, Jacques LeMoyne, through his drawings, were among the first to capture the ever changing beauty of the river.

The tradition continues as Down by the Riverside documents the many beautiful and fascinating images of the river.

The St. Johns Cultural Council hopes that the exhibit will increase participant’s awareness of the urgent need to protect this valuable and beautiful water resource. The artwork is also available for sale so participants can take home a permanent reminder of the beauty of the river.

The exhibit is funded in part by a grant from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and through the support of Regions Bank. For more information about the St. Johns Cultural Council visit www.stjohnsculture.com

St Johns River Calendar A

Photographers to sign prints during River Summit

Georgia-Pacific, a sponsor of the St. Johns River Summit, will “unveil” the 2011 Greater St. Johns River Calendar at their exhibit booth.  The 15-month calendar features beautiful photographs taken along the river, submitted by residents and tourists which were selected by a panel of judges. All proceeds from the calendar will be used to support the St. Johns River Alliance.  Calendars can be purchased at the St. Johns River Summit and online ordering will soon be available.

On Wednesday, September 15th @ 3:00 PM, Georgia-Pacific will host a special event at their booth. Winning photographers will participate in print signings during this afternoon event.  Summit attendees who stop by the Georgia-Pacific booth from 3:00-4:00 PM will receive a complimentary 5x7 signed print to further promote the 2011 calendar.

The St. Johns River Alliance and Georgia-Pacific thank the 15 winning photographers for making the inaugural calendar competition a special one by enabling us to share a glimpse of the St. Johns River through their lens with the rest of Florida.
